I am an avid Rolling Stones fan. Have all their albums, know most of their songs by heart and saw them numerous times in concert, including twice at Shea Stadium in 1989.
Mets and Stones the same age.
It was a tremendous show, with 50,000-plus fans singing “Ruby Tuesday,’’ in unison, and I mean every word, not just the refrain.
I noticed they are trending Saturday on Yahoo.
Because they performed the other day in the Middle East – Abu Dhabi, to be exact in front of 30,000 fans. It was kind of surprising news considering the political climate of the area and the Stones’ reputation.
One article said they were formed in 1962, which rang a significant bell because that was the year the New York Mets were born. That means the Stones and Mets are the same age.
The Mets won’t be able to get Mick and Keith this summer at Citi Field, but that isn’t to say they might not be able to snag a Rolling Stones tribute band.
It might bring about an afternoon of satisfaction.
We had a pretty good post the other night on the Mets’ prospects. A lot of good exchanges. Then the smack started flying and it wasn’t pretty. I’m no prude, but when I get emails from people complaining about the tone of conversations going on then I have to say something.
I certainly don’t want to censure comments, but I can’t have that kind of talk on here. It’s offensive to others and I don’t want to lose them as readers, either. So, please keep it clean. If somebody says something that ticks you off, just take the high ground. If somebody is getting on your case, email me: firstname.lastname@example.org.
And, it’s not just being crude. It’s the insults, too, and perhaps that’s even worse. This is supposed to be a debate and different opinions are encouraged. I really mean that. But, if somebody doesn’t agree with you, there’s no need to attack that person.
There are kids on this blog and I’m sending editors to this site for evaluation. I don’t want them to be exposed to that. I respect your input and I’ve talked with several of you via email when comments got cut before. I don’t want to cut, but fair warning it is crude and vulgar and insulting, I’ll have no other choice.
Please respect what I’m trying to do and keep it clean. When you guys are on your game I’m proud of this blog, but I can’t have what happened the other night.
Greetings all. I have missed talking with you the past two weeks. I’ve received lots of well wishes since The Journal News dumped me. They never gave me a reason, at least nothing other than the vague explanation of economics. They are still making money, but I guess their profit margin isn’t as big as they hoped.
I received several requests to keep the blog running. The blog became a passion and I developed an attachment to many of my readers and felt obligated to continue. I made commitment to you and will stick by it. I thank you for your interest and will work hard to pick up where I left off. I also want to thank Joe McDonald for getting me up and running.
I won’t have the resources I had at the paper, but I am a lifetime member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, so I still have access to the ballpark, and and a result, the players.
As I search for a new job I will keep the blog running, and hopefully I will land something in baseball and close to Mets.
I will keep upgrading the blog, but if there’s anything you’d like so see, let me know and as always I will try to deliver.
If you want to reach me off-line, my email is email@example.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you, and I an anxious to talk Mets with you again.
