METS CHAT ROOM: Game #35: Reyes out again.

Jose Reyes will sit again tonight with a calf injury and was a topic of trade talk on the radio this afternoon. Can we get over it? Reyes isn’t going anywhere. Neither is David Wright or Carlos Beltran. I don’t care where the Mets finish in the standings.

In other news, Carlos Delgado’s hip isn’t getting any better and is ticketed for the disabled list. Also, Tim Redding is expected to be activated to start Monday’s game at Los Angeles.

Tonight’s line-up:

Alex Cora, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Gary Sheffield, LF
David Wright, 3B
Ryan Church, RF
Jeremy Reed, 1B
Omir Santos, C
Livan Hernandez, P

Jon Niese goes today for the Mets. If they get a good outing from him they’ll have a decision to make because Tim Redding is ready to return. The Mets will also likely decide today to place Carlos Delgado on the disabled list with his lingering hip injury.

Important game last night for the Mets to come from behind to win. They did catch a break when Carlos Beltran stole third because he looked out. Beltran eventually scored the tying run and drove in the game winner with a bases loaded walk.

Here’s today’s line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Gary Sheffield, LF
David Wright, 3B
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Ramon Castro, C
Ryan Church, RF
Jon Niese, P

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #29; on a roll.

Five. Do I hear six? The Mets will try to extend their winning streak today behind John Maine, who has run hot and cold this year. When he’s cold, he usually has one bad inning – very Perez-like – that derails him.

Today, the Mets will be without manager Jerry Manuel, who was suspended for one game for bumping umpire Bill Welke Thursday night arguing the Shane Victorino play. Sandy Alomar Sr. will manage the team.

Here’s the line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Carlos Delgado, 1B
David Wright, 3B
Gary Sheffield, RF
Fernando Tatis, LF
Ramon Castro, C
John Maine, P

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #27; going for the sweep.

The Mets are going for their fourth straight victory tonight against Philadelphia, and if they get it they’ll pull within a half-game of first place. For the most part they have put together this modest winning streak without Jose Reyes, who is on an 8-for-53 slide.

Reyes is falling back into bad habits at the plate such as not being patient and he’s expanded the strike zone for pitchers by swinging at garbage.

Mike Pelfrey (3-0) on the mound for the Mets against Jamie Moyer. With the lefthander, the Mets will sit Ryan Church and Daniel Murphy.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Carlos Delgado, 1B
David Wright, 3B
Gary Sheffield, RF
Fernando Tatis, LF
Ramon Castro, C
Mike Pelfrey, P

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #26; Santana vs. the Phillies.

The best pitcher in the sport will try to extend the Mets’ winning streak to three games tonight against the Phillies. Johan Santana could easily be 5-0 with a little more support.

Interesting changes in the line-up, beginning with Daniel Murphy batting sixth behind David Wright because Alex Cora gets the start at second. Ryan Church, who is in a dreadful slump and hitting .143 with RISP in on the bench.

Here’s the line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Alex Cora, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Carlos Delgado, 1B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, LF
Jeremy Reed, RF
Omir Santos, C
Johan Santana, P
