METS CHAT ROOM: Game #124; Yawn … Pedro is back.

Pedro Martinez is back. He’ll get cheered, but frankly, I don’t see the attraction. He was a mercenary who came to New York because, 1) the Red Sox didn’t think he was healthy or worth the effort anymore, and 2) for the money, $53 million worth.

MARTINEZ: Hired gun returns.

MARTINEZ: Hired gun returns.

Martinez was a marquee player on the downside when he came here and won 32 games in four years when he was healthy enough to pitch.

Anyway, Martinez against Oliver Perez today.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, CF
Fernando Tatis, 3B
Brian Schneider, C
Anderson Hernandez, SS
Oliver Perez, LP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #121; Wagner activated.

CHAT ROOM

CHAT ROOM

The 56-64 Mets conclude their series tonight against Atlanta with Johan Santana (13-8, 3.10 ERA) going against rookie Kenshin Kawakami (5-9, 4.13 ERA).

The Mets were torched last night in one of the worst defeats of the season.

Gary Sheffield was in the original line-up but was scratched leading to speculation something might be cooking.

Instead, here’s the line-up against Kawakami:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Fernando Tatis, 3B
Brian Schneider, C
Anderson Hernandez, SS
Johan Santana, LP

NOTES: Lefty reliever Billy Wagner was activated from the 90-day disabled list. Look for the Mets to attempt to make a waiver deal for him. … Santana is 1-1 in two starts against Atlanta this season, but has yet to allow an earned run. … Carlos Beltran is shagging fly balls, but still needs to test his knee running the bases.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #103; Oh, no, Perez.

I really don’t want to watch Oliver Perez tonight. Yeah, once I say that he’s liable to pitch lights out, but he’s also able to be annoyingly frustrating to watch. How Dan Warthen and Jerry Manuel, not to mention his teammates, bear it, I’ll never know.

The Mets need a big game from Perez because they can’t afford much more losing. They threw away last night’s game, literally, with Sean Green’s wild pitch.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Alex Cora, SS
Brian Schneider, C
Oliver Perez, LP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #98; now the game.

Leave it to the Mets to make a bad situation worse. They were ridding themselves of an embarrassing situation by firing Tony Bernazard and had just won two of three in Houston. There was reason to be having a positive tone, but that’s all gone now with the trashing of Adam Rubin. This story has legs and will knock tonight’s game out of the papers tomorrow.

And, it will only snowball with a loss, which is very possible considering the Rockies are very good and tonight’s Mets’ pitcher, Oliver Perez, he of the 2-3 record and 7.68 ERA, is not.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Omir Santos, C
Alex Cora, SS
Oliver Perez, LP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #97; red alert … they can win a series.

With a win today the Mets can finally win a series today behind Livan Hernandez. It seems like forever since they did anything that simple.

It will happen if they score ten more runs. It was good to finally see David Wright hit a home runs. They had three last night. They hadn’t many more than that all month.

Hernandez beat the Nationals in his last start, but prior to that lost his last four starts.

I’ve got some things to take care of today, but I’ll be in and out monitoring the game.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Brian Schneider, C
Alex Cora, SS
Livan Hernandez, RP
