March 20.10: Grooming Mejia?

It would be nice if the Mets would just come out and say it with Jenrry Mejia, but things don’t work that way. However, Jerry Manuel has given a good indication the Mets are considering him for this year out of the bullpen right out of the gate.

Mejia pitched yesterday, and is also scheduled to work today against the Cardinals out of the pen. It will be the first time he’s worked this season on consecutive days – always a test for a reliever – and it is coming off a bad outing, which is another test.

John Maine gets the start today, and it will be interesting to see how he does. Maine was hammered in his last appearance, which was out of the pen, and later he said he “wasn’t into it.” Here’s hoping he’s into it today.

Here’s today’s lineup:

Gary Matthews, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
Fernando Tatis, 3B
Mike Jacobs, 1B
Fernando Martinez, RF
Alex Cora, SS
Jason Pridle, LF
Chris Coste, C
John Maine, RP

It all comes to a close this weekend. One of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory ends with a three-game series against the Houston Astros, a team that had its own problems this year.

It’s John Maine going for the Mets against Wandy Rodriguez.

Here’s the line-up for the Mets (67-92):

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Omir Santos, C
Anderson Hernandez, SS
John Maine (6-6, 4.72 ERA), RP

Tonight’s line-up ….

Salvage is a word I’ve used more than a few times this season. I’ll use it again tonight as that’s what the Mets will attempt to do against the Braves. They’ve lost the first two in this series and seven straight against the Braves.

Here’s the line-up Mike Pelfrey hopes will score him enough runs to dig himself out of whatever hole he gets into tonight:

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Brian Schneider, C
Anderson Hernandez, SS
Mike Pelfrey, RP

NOTE: Pelfrey is 0-2 with an 8.74 ERA in his two starts this season against the Braves.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #148; Losing streak at six.

Good afternoon folks. It’s such a beautiful afternoon and with two such ugly teams, I imagine things could be quiet this afternoon. I’ll still check in to see if there’s a pulse.

Tim Redding, stopper, pitches today for the Mets in an effort to snap their losing streak at six games. Whether he does or doesn’t, it really doesn’t matter anymore. Kind of sad, actually. I would rather have them lose it the last week than go through the motions.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Fernando Tatis, LF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Wilson Valdez, SS
Josh Thole, C
Tim Redding (2-6, 5.52 ERA), RP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #147; Delgado officially done.

Not that this is a surprise to anyone, but Carlos Delgado is done for the year. Several setbacks with his back, said Jerry Manuel. I don’t see him ever wearing a Mets uniform again.

The Mets open a three game series against Washington tonight. Here’s the line-up that will try to overcome Mike Pelfrey’s inconsistencies:

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Brian Schneider, C
Wilson Valdez, SS
Mike Pelfrey (10-10, 5.09 ERA), RP
