Today’s lineup vs. Braves

REYES: Out of the lineup.

What do you know, Jose Reyes is out of the lineup this afternoon after aggravating his oblique injury. You saw this one coming a mile away.

It was just ridiculous to have pushed the envelope this way with one of your key players.

It might be too little, too late, but the next step with Reyes is to pull him from the All-Star Game. If he can’t help his team, he can’t help the National League.

Here’s today’s lineup:

Angel Pagan, CF

Alex Cora, 2B

David Wright, 3B

Ike Davis, 1B

Jeff Francoeur, RF

Chris Carter, LF

Rod Barajas, C

Ruben Tejada, 2B

Johan Santana, LP

Mets Chat Room; Getting Santana back on track.

Game #79 at Nationals

Johan Santana takes the mound tonight looking to avoid losing his third straight start when the Mets go to Washington.

Santana (5-5, 3.55 ERA) has been uncharacteristically poor recently, going 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA in his last four starts.

“Is he frustrated? I don’t know, but he’s a competitor,’’ catcher Rod Barajas said. “He wants the ball every five days and when he doesn’t pitch as well as he thinks he should, he takes it hard. I don’t know if frustrated is the word, probably a little anger because he knows he has the stuff.’’

Mets Chat Room; Pelfrey hopes to stop sweep.

Game #78 vs. Marlins

The Florida Marlins are not a team Mike Pelfrey (10-2, 2.71) enjoys facing, but then again, this is a different Pelfrey.

Pelfrey beat the Marlins in his major league debut, July 8, 2006, but has gone 0-6 with a 5.82 ERA in nine starts since.

He has not faced Florida this season.

But, this year we’ve seen a different Pelfrey, who is 6-1 with a 2.38 ERA in his last eight starts, including beating Minnesota last Friday.

“I wouldn’t way it’s beyond where I thought I could be,’’ Pelfrey said of his hot first half. “It’s a good start.’’

Tonight’s lineup vs. Marlins; Pagan out again.

Angel Pagan still has some soreness in his right side that makes it uncomfortable to hit left-handed. That’s why Jesus Feliciano pinch-hit for him last night and was in center field on the game winning hit, and why he’s not in the lineup tonight against righty Chris Volstad.

Here’s tonight’s lineup vs. Marlins:

Jose Reyes, SS

Jesus Feliciano, CF

David Wright, 3B

Ike Davis, 1B

Jason Bay, LF

Chris Carter, RF

Rod Barajas, C

Alex Cora, 2B

Mike Pelfrey, RP

Mets Chat Room: Pagan sits vs. Tigers.

Game #72 vs. Tigers

The Mets will be going for the sweep tonight against Detroit without, as expected, without center fielder Angel Pagan, who is sidelined with a muscle spasm in his right side.

Jesus Feliciano will start in center.

Pagan left last night’s game in the seventh inning, and typically Jerry Manuel rests a player the day after taking him out of a game with an injury.

Manuel said Pagan could be able to play tomorrow night against Minnesota.
