Gooood Morning: From the overnight.

Have a good day.

Have a good day.

Quiet last night on the West Coast. I’ll keep posting the Moon thread and hopefully we can do a Pacific Chat Room.

My thoughts on some of the comments raised on the overnight:

-Castillo was never healthy all year, but the times he did play his attitude was suspect. A healthy and motivated Castillo? Well, it could happen. He played well in spurts in 2007. The Mets would like to deal Castillo, but if that doesn’t happen, I don’t see them cutting him and paying him his entire contract. The Mets don’t work that way.

-To me, Perez is one whom I would worry about being too complacent with a big contract. I have no basis to say that other than a gut feeling.

One more thing, if you haven’t already, scroll down a couple of threads to the one about your favorite uplifting song.

Mets after Midnight: The playoffs and Omar Edition.

Moon over the Mets.

Moon over the Mets.

On the day the Mets extended Omar Minaya through 2014 (counting the two option years), their nemesis, the Phillies, took a commanding 2-0 lead in their NL Division Series with Milwaukee. Philly is looking pretty good.

I watched part of the LA-Cubs game. I’ve always liked Joe Torre so I’m happy for him considering how tacky the Yankees were in pushing him out. I had a good working relationship with him when I covered the Yankees, and when I was taken off the beat he called to wish me well.

He didn’t have to, but it made me proud because it showed he respected my work.

I also have a good friend who works with Tampa Bay, so I’m pulling for his team in the AL. Don’t know what I’ll do if they meet in the Series.

My take on the Minaya extension is it was a no-brainer. Sure, the Mets fell short a second straight season, but the truth is they are better now than they were when he took over. There’s no doubt Minaya made some decision that backfired, but he’s also added players that brought them this far.

I understand the frustration, but the Mets remain a contending team. There’s a lot of pitching work that needs to be done, but with the right acquisitions they can get back to the playoffs. This is not a hopeless situation they are in.

That’s about it from me for today. I think I’ll watch some of “Tombstone,” before calling it a night. I’ll answer your comments and questions in the morning. Good night all.

Mets after Midnight ….

Moon over the Mets.

Moon over the Mets.

The Internet has made it easy to follow the Mets from any where at anytime. If you’re on the West Coast, like poster Patrick, you’re probably ready to talk Mets while most of us in the East Coast are calling it a night.

Not anymore. I will run this post for awhile, hopefully to find out how many friends I have from the West Coast. Ask questions and make your comments, and I’ll answer them in the morning. If it turns out there’s a lot of you out there, I’ll do a midnight Mets Chat Room.

Of course, if you’re on the East Coast and can’t sleep, which happens to almost nightly, I hope you jump in also.
