METS CHAT ROOM: Game #109; Wagner, Delgado available.

What we talked about the other day about the Mets looking toward next season seems to be the organization’s thinking with reports they are willing to deal reliever Billy Wagner and first baseman Carlos Delgado before the Aug. 31 waiver trade deadline.

Both players are on the disabled list, Wagner recovering from Tommy John surgery and Delgado from hip surgery, but are expected to be available this month.

WAGNER: Tears with surgery news.

WAGNER: Tears with surgery news.

Should the Mets continue to slide out of contention, the hope is they’ll be able to load up on prospects from a contender. They might not get much, but the Mets need to do something to bolster their minor league system.

Both players should clear waivers considering their salaries (Wagner, $10.5 million and Delgado, $12 million), and neither is expected to be offered arbitration and would leave as free agents.

Because Delgado isn’t as far along, he figures to be harder to deal because he wouldn’t have as much time to show he is healthy.

Tonight it’s Oliver Perez for the Mets, which usually means an uneasy night.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Alex Cora, SS
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Fernando Tatis, 2B
Brian Schneider, C
Oliver Perez, LP

NOTE: Infielder Anderson Hernandez joined the team.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #103; Oh, no, Perez.

I really don’t want to watch Oliver Perez tonight. Yeah, once I say that he’s liable to pitch lights out, but he’s also able to be annoyingly frustrating to watch. How Dan Warthen and Jerry Manuel, not to mention his teammates, bear it, I’ll never know.

The Mets need a big game from Perez because they can’t afford much more losing. They threw away last night’s game, literally, with Sean Green’s wild pitch.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Alex Cora, SS
Brian Schneider, C
Oliver Perez, LP

Johan Santana rebounded from a bad start with a sterling performance in today’s 7-0 whipping of Colorado in the first game of a day-night double-header.

Santana threw seven sharp innings and streaking New York won its fifth straight game, beating the Colorado Rockies 7-0 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

SANTANA: Sharp in opener.

SANTANA: Sharp in opener.

“Every time you win a game it’s good. But it’s even better when you have a chance to just keep adding to it,” Santana said. “That’s what I was trying to do today and at the same time I was having fun. It’s good to see that. It’s good to see that everybody feels comfortable.”

The victory was the Mets fifth straight.

Santana (12-8) struck out eight, walked one and gave up four hits. He finished July with a 3-2 record and 1.82 ERA in five starts. The Mets broke it open with a five-run second highlighted by Angel Berroa’s two-run double. It only the sixth time in 21 starts by Santana that they’ve supported him with at least five runs.

The Mets (49–51) will throw Jon Niese (1–0, 4.08 ERA) against lefty Jorge De La Rosa (8-7, 4.78 ERA).

Here’s the line-up for the second game:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B

Omir Santos, C

NOTEBOOK: The day began with GM Omar Minaya announcing he had apologized to Daily News writer Adam Rubin for comments directed at him during Monday’s press conference. … The Mets recalled catcher Robinson Cancel from Triple-A Buffalo and designated RHP Elmer Dessens for assignment. … Catcher Brian Schneider has a sore knee. … Luis Castillo missed the first game as his wife gave birth to a baby girl.
