Hi folks …. have shoveled myself out. Went to the post office with mail that needed to be postmarked by Dec. 31. Ran some errands. Ready for tonight to ring in the new year.
It’s slow now, so I’m posting another Loose Threads. Share what’s on your mind, be it your New Year’s resolutions … comment about the Jets game Sunday night … talk of the bowl games … give me a movie review … your plans for the weekend … and, of course, anything about baseball. My plans for the weekend include watching the Jets on Sunday and Ohio State tomorrow.
I’ll put up posts tomorrow and throughout the weekend, and after that, of course, every day.
I’ve done “Loose Threads,” several times. It’s a catch-all post where I invite you to say what ever is on your mind. I mean, there’s got to be more to life than the Mets, especially with nothing going on.
Sitting at home tonight waiting for the Great Blizzard of 2009. So far, not a flake. Very cold, no snow. No sense going out to the movies, so I’ll stay in tonight and put Casablanca in the DVD player. My favorite movie. I’m watching it again because I don’t get the NFL Network and can’t watch the undefeated Saints. With most of the mid-Atlantic snowbound, it would have been a nice Christmas present.
I’ve never been a fan of the vanity networks. The NFL, in particular, has milked billions from the networks, and by extension the public. Does it really need a network of its own? I’m just waiting for the day when the NFL will put its playoff games on its own network. It has to be coming soon.
Well, that’s on my mind right now. If you want to comment on it, feel free. If you want to comment on the something about the Mets that hasn’t been mentioned, go there. Football? Fine. The Knicks or Celtics? Sure.
Politics? I wish you wouldn’t for obvious reasons.
I like the idea of giving you guys a forum. I just haven’t figured out the best way to do it when it’s not about the Mets.
I’ll have something for you in the morning, and later tonight if the Mets do something.
A lot of things floating on in my mind these days.
-Congratulations to Mike Mussina for retiring on his terms. Part of me wishes he’d stay for 300 wins. But another part – a greater part – admires him for doing it his way. It doesn’t happen often. Will he get my Hall of Fame vote? Yes.
-I see where Hank Steinbrenner gave an ultimatum for the Yankees to sign CC Sabathia. I’d like to see Fred Wilpon do the same with a closer.
-The Mets seem torn between Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes. That should tell you of the concerns for K-Rod. And, concerns at this time are valid. I’d stay away, go with Fuentes and use the rest of the money that would have gone to K-Rod go for depth in the pen.
-Luis Castillo is staying to play second base. That seems apparent now. Their thinking is to hope for a comeback. It beats paying somebody to take him away.
-There doesn’t seem like a groundswell of support to keep either Oliver Perez or Pedro Martinez.
-Please subscribe to the blog. No cost. That way you’ll be notified of new posts.
– I received an email this week from a faithful reader requesting features. A great idea, and starting next week you’ll see something along those lines.
-This week I posted two commentaries. And, you’ll be seeing more of those, also.
-At the upper left corner there’s a sidebar “Popular Post.” It lists the threads with the most comments. Feel free to go back in time. If something jumps out at you, comment under the latest “Loose Threads.”
-I am not a tech genius by any stretch. I’ve started adding some links and you’ll see that segment gradually growing. If there are any links, either Mets or baseball, let me know.
