Bay dropped in batting order.

I wonder what took Terry Collins so long, but he finally dropped Jason Bay in the batting order, from fourth to sixth.

Bay entered the season as one of the Mets’ biggest questions, but has not produced and waiting for him to turn it on doesn’t seem like it is going to happen.

Here’s tonight’s lineup against the Braves:

Jose Reyes, SS

Justin Turner, 3B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Daniel Murphy, 1B

Angel Pagan, CF

Jason Bay, LF

Josh Thole, C

Ruben Tejada, 2B

Dillon Gee, RP

Davis still ailing; notebook; tonight’s lineup vs. Pirates.

Some two weeks for Ike Davis, huh? The Mets are now saying he might be able to return by the All-Star break.

Davis will be wearing a protective boot and will be shut down for at least three weeks.

“The only baseball activities he can do, basically, is play catch, and he’ll be able to swing,’’ manager Terry Collins told reporters today at Citi Field. “But he’s not to do any running whatsoever for the next three weeks. There’s still a hot spot where the bone bruise is. So we’re going to pretty much shut him down from that type of activity.’’

Meanwhile, David Wright will have an X-ray Thursday to determine a timetable for when he can resume baseball activities. Wright in on the DL with a stress fracture in his lower back.

The Mets say Jose Reyes is expected to return from bereavement leave for Thursday’s game.

On a positive note, Johan Santana is throwing off the mound in 15-pitch intervals in Port St. Lucie. The next step will be throwing batting practice.

Here’s tonight’s starting lineup against Pittsburgh:

Angel Pagan, CF

Justin Turner, 2B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Jason Bay, LF

Daniel Murphy, 3B

Nick Evans, 1B

Josh Thole, C

Ruben Tejada, SS

RA Dickey, RP

COMMENTS: Dickey will get the start despite leaving his last start in Chicago early with an injury to his right heel. No doubt, the Mets will keep him on a short leash. Dale Thayer is first in line should Dickey falter. …. Pat Misch cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Buffalo.

Wright hurt; out at least a week with back fracture.

The Mets will be without David Wright for at least a week to ten days with stress fracture in his lower back.

WRIGHT: Out with back fracture.

Wright underwent a MRI today at the Hospital of Special Surgery, which revealed the injury. Wright said he will seek a second opinion, after which a decision would be made on the disabled list.

The Mets said Wright sustained the injury on a diving tag play to Houston’s Carlos Lee, April 19. Wright doesn’t believe this is a long-term injury, but then again, that’s what second opinions are for.

“About the first week, I felt stiff and sore, but I felt that would go away the next couple of weeks,’’ Wright told reporters this afternoon at Citi Field. “I was on some medication and some anti-inflammatories that really wasn’t doing much. That explains it now, because it’s not a muscular thing.

“It’s what could be a stress fracture. … It’s probably me somewhat being stubborn and not getting it checked out earlier. I don’t think it really limited me too much or prohibited me from doing anything. It was just a little uncomfortable.’’

VIDEO OF INJURY

Wright is off to a slow start, hitting .231 with six homers and 18 RBI.

General manager Sandy Alderson said the Mets could promote Ruben Tejada to play second base and move Justin Turner to third, or they could bring up Nick Evans or Luis Hernandez.

Daniel Murphy is a natural third baseman, but he’s playing first base while Ike Davis is on the disabled list. Davis, out with a sprained ankle, is currently rehabbing in Port St. Lucie. Ironically, Davis was injured in a collision with Wright.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

Jose Reyes, SS

Willie Harris, 3B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Jason Bay, LF

Daniel Murphy, 1B

Justin Turner, 2B

Jason Pridie, CF

Ronny Paulino, C

Mike Pelfrey, RP

Mets’ May 5 lineup vs. San Francisco

So long ago seems that six-game winning streak. The Mets have lost five of their last six games since and will attempt to stop the slide this afternoon with this lineup behind Mike Pelfrey:

Jose Reyes, SS

Chin-lung Hu, 2B

David Wright, 3B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Jason Bay, LF

Ike Davis, 1B

Ronny Paulino, C

Scott Hairston, CF

Mike Pelfrey, RP

COMMENTS: Nothing wrong with giving Daniel Murphy the day off. Hu needs some playing time anyway. … Wright still batting third much to the chagrin of many. Terry Collins seems set on that. … Jason Bay returns to the lineup. He’s still not hitting for power. When will that happen?

Mets’ May 3 lineup vs. San Francisco.

With tonight being the first pro sports event in NY since bin Laden was killed, it figures to be an emotional night at Citi Field.

The Mets donated 4,000 tickets to servicemen for tonight’s game. Marine Corps Sgt. Elizabeth Quinones will perform “God Bless America’’ during the seventh inning stretch. The Mets also booked a color guard for the pre-game.

Here’s tonight’s lineup against San Francisco:

Jose Reyes, SS

Daniel Murphy, 2B

David Wright, 3B

Carlos Beltran, RF

Ike Davis, 1B

Lucas Duda, LF

Josh Thole, C

Jason Pridie, CF

R.A. Dickey, RP

NOTES: Jason Bay was placed on the Paternity Leave List to be with his wife, Kristen, for the birth of the couple’s third child. Replacing Bay will be Lucas Duda, who was hitting .257 (19-74) with four doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 21 games for Triple-A Buffalo.
