METS CHAT ROOM: Game #105; Figgy gets start.

CHAT ROOM

CHAT ROOM

The Mets conclude their four-game series tonight against Arizona with the pitching disadvantage of Nelson Figueroa against Dan Haren. I remember at one winter meetings, I believe it was Orlando, when I tracked down rumor after rumor of Haren coming to the Mets.

Of course, he never did.

Figueroa has had some decent moments with the Mets, but the truth is not nearly enough to warrant what all the fuss is about. He’s had plenty of chances to go elsewhere, but nobody was knocking at his door.

After winning five straight, the Mets are on the verge of losing four of their next five games if they lose tonight.

Here’s the line-up for the 50-54 Mets:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Gary Sheffield, LF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Alex Cora, SS
Omir Santos, C
Nelson Figueroa, RP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #103; Oh, no, Perez.

I really don’t want to watch Oliver Perez tonight. Yeah, once I say that he’s liable to pitch lights out, but he’s also able to be annoyingly frustrating to watch. How Dan Warthen and Jerry Manuel, not to mention his teammates, bear it, I’ll never know.

The Mets need a big game from Perez because they can’t afford much more losing. They threw away last night’s game, literally, with Sean Green’s wild pitch.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Alex Cora, SS
Brian Schneider, C
Oliver Perez, LP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #97; red alert … they can win a series.

With a win today the Mets can finally win a series today behind Livan Hernandez. It seems like forever since they did anything that simple.

It will happen if they score ten more runs. It was good to finally see David Wright hit a home runs. They had three last night. They hadn’t many more than that all month.

Hernandez beat the Nationals in his last start, but prior to that lost his last four starts.

I’ve got some things to take care of today, but I’ll be in and out monitoring the game.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Brian Schneider, C
Alex Cora, SS
Livan Hernandez, RP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #94; Throw a tent over this circus.

METS CHAT

METS CHAT

It’s now getting ridiculous.

The Mets are investigating reports about assistant GM Tony Bernazard’s bizarre behavior, which reportedly include challenging a minor league player to a fight, exchanged words on the team bus with Francisco Rodriguez and got in a shouting match with a scout over a seat.

On the injury front, Gary Sheffield tested his hammy and we could know more by the end of the week. Alex Cora aggravated his injured thumb and will be replaced by Angel Berroa is starting at shortstop tonight.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
David Wright, 3B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Angel Berroa, SS
Brian Schneider, C
Mike Pelfrey, RP

Is it me, or does Pelfrey remind you of a right-handed Oliver Perez? Like Coin Flip, Pelfrey always seems to run into that one inning where everything seems to unravel, beginning with a lack of control where he can’t find the plate with a GPS system.

Pelfrey, who is supposed to be a No. 2 starter, hasn’t pitched any better than a No. 4. This is a guy who has the size to be intimidating, but has only parlayed it to inconsistentcy.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #93; Why do you need Halladay when you’ve got Ollie?

I am kidding, of course, with the headline. Not surprisingly, multiple media outlets have shot down the published report that had the Mets turning down a trade proposal for Roy Halladay.

As we discussed last night on the blog, it is unlikely Halladay will be moved for several reasons, beginning with the Blue Jays’ asking price and their refusal to give a negotiating window to a prospective buyer.

Tonight, the Mets will try to make it two in a row behind Oliver Perez against the hapless Washington Nationals. Gary Sheffield is out of the line-up for a fourth straight game, and here’s a surprise, he could go on the DL if there is no improvement by the end of the week.

Here’s the line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Fernando Tatis, LF
Daniel Muprhy, 1B
Omir Santos, C
Alex Cora, SS
Oliver Perez, LP
