Not that this is a surprise to anyone, but Carlos Delgado is done for the year. Several setbacks with his back, said Jerry Manuel. I don’t see him ever wearing a Mets uniform again.

The Mets open a three game series against Washington tonight. Here’s the line-up that will try to overcome Mike Pelfrey’s inconsistencies:

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Brian Schneider, C
Wilson Valdez, SS
Mike Pelfrey (10-10, 5.09 ERA), RP

Mets Chat Room: Game #145; Parnell gets the ball.

CHAT ROOM

Hi guys and gals. I hope you caught my earlier post on Bobby Parnell. If you’ve got something to add, do it here. Would love to talk with you.

Anyway, he gets the ball tonight with no promises from his manager he’ll get it again if he struggles. That’s the last thing he needs. When Jerry Manuel says stuff like that about a young player it can only add to the pressure. When he says it about a veteran, he can handle it better because he knows the ropes.

Anyway, I think Parnell should keep getting the ball because that’s the only way he can improve. Like I said earlier, Manuel’s waffling damages his confidence more than anything the Braves will do tonight.

Here’s the line-up:

Luis Castillo, 2B
Josh Thole, C
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Jeremy Reed, LF
Wilson Valdez, SS
Bobby Parnell, RP

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #142; Twenty games left.

The Mets (62-79) continue their four-game series with the Phillies (80-59) today at Philadelphia, with Mike Pelfrey (10-10, 4.83) going against Jamie Moyer (12-9, 4.98).

Including today, there are 20 games left in this dismal season. The Mets are 19 games behind the Phillies in the NL East and 19.5 games behind Colorado for a wild card. I’m just being official when I say do the math.

Pelfrey is 3-0 with a 3.70 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this season. He is coming off one of his rare good starts, when he gave up one run on five hits through a a season-high eight innings last weekend against the Cubs.

The following is yet another line-up for the Mets:

Luis Castillo, 2B
Fernando Tatis, LF
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Omir Santos, C
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Wilson Valdez, SS
Mike Pelfrey, RP

Tonight’s batting order vs. Fish

On Free Hot Dog Night at Citi Field, the Mets will send Pat Misch (1-1, 3.25 ERA) to the mound against Ricky Nolasco. In three starts since joining the rotation, Misch has given up three earned runs in 18 innings and three starts since August 23.

Here’s the line-up taking aim at Nolasco (10-8, 5.27 ERA):

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Josh Thole, C
Anderson Hernandez, SS
Pat Misch, LP

will start for the Mets. Misch has been a pleasant surprise since being placed in the starting rotation.
Ricky Nolasco will start for the Marlins. It has been an up and down season for Nolasco, a low point coming on August 12 against Houston when he allowed 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings. He has been mostly ineffective against the Mets this season, as he has allowed eight earned runs in 10 innings in two starts, posting an 0-1 record.

We begin the day with more injury news, of course. Jeff Francoeur is at the Hospital of Special Surgery getting a MRI on his thumb, which was injured making a catch in the ninth inning yesterday. Also, David Wright was taking ground balls.

Bobby Parnell will make his fourth start in the experiment to see if he could be a starter next season. He’ll go against lefty Cliff Lee, who has won four straight decisions since coming over from Cleveland.

Here’s today’s line-up:

Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
Gary Sheffield, LF
Fernando Tatis, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Omir Santos, C
Cory Sullivan, RF
Anderson Hernandez, SS
Bobby Parnell (3-5, 4.74 ERA), RP

NOTES; Parnell was ripped against the Braves in his last start, lasting three innings and giving up nine runs on nine hits.
