Let’s be realistic ….

As a writer, I do a lot of reading, and it is amazing some of the things I see out there. I won’t refute by name, but idea, and the idea I don’t get is John Lackey.

Yes, I think it would be fantastic if the Mets got him, but I see three teams ahead of the them: the Rangers, Yankees and Angels.

Lackey’s preference if he leaves are the Rangers. The Angels would like to keep him, but might balk at his asking price. Then, of course, there are the Yankees, who, if they really want him will get him if he’s open to New York.

Next year’s rotation?

Looking at what the Mets are throwing out there these days, it’s not hard to envision few changes with next year’s rotation. Can’t we write off a blockbuster trade because of the lack of minor league depth, and because we know they aren’t going to make another $100-million signing? John Lackey they aren’t going to get.

So, we’ll have Johan Santana as the ace, the struggling Mike Pelfrey still trying to piece it together, Oliver Perez because you know they can’t trade him, Jon Niese vying for a spot and John Maine if he’s healthy and they even tender him a contract.

Then we’ll probably see a different version of Tim Redding and Livan Hernandez, although, with few other options, I can see Hernandez Part II.

Who gets the ball?

Would you give Sabathia all that money?

Would you give Sabathia all that money?

The Mets are staring at two holes in their rotation with the possible losses of Oliver Perez and Pedro Martinez. The free-agent market has options with CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett. So, you’re Omar. Who gets the money? Would you give Sabathia $150 million?

Do you re-sign either Perez or Martinez and go elsewhere?
Do you re-sign both Perez and Martinez?
Do you go elsewhere to fill both holes?
Do you give the ball to Jon Niese for the season and take your lumps?
