METS CHAT ROOM: Game #44: Happy Memorial Day.

CHAT ROOM

Greetings all. I hope you enjoyed the holiday with your family and friends. Three-day weekends are always a treasure. Made even better when your team is doing well.

Beyond my wildest dreams, the Mets won two of three against Boston at Fenway. I expected a sweep in the other direction. But, they surprised everybody, but hopefully not themselves.

Their recent road trip was a test. They won five, lost five, so let’s take this with a grain of salt. With how they started, they should have won six. They also could have lost six had it not been for Omir Santos.

This next stretch is also a test with games against Washington, Florida and Pittsburgh. These are all series the Mets should win, but series they’ve struggled with in the past – especially when coming off a rough stretch.

Baseball after Midnight ….

What's keeping you up tonight?

What's keeping you up tonight?

Greetings late night friends.

With the hope of a classic World Series now dashed and the Rays on life support, the Hot Stove Season is days away. We got a head start on it tonight as much of the conversation was about the Mets and their numerous holes.

If you want to analyze the Series or weigh in on the Mets, feel free. This is your late night message board. Post and I’ll catch up with you in the morning.

Baseball after Midnight: Phillies take Game 1

What's keeping you up tonight?

What's keeping you up tonight?

Greetings to all my friends on the West Coast. During the season I’ll call this post “Mets after Midnight.” I had this post before and will do my best to keep it going as to get a dialogue going with you guys two and three time zones away.

I have a good feeling about this World Series. Not so much in the winner, but in that it will be a compelling Series. How did the Phillies leave as many guys on base as they did and still win? Oh yeah, the Rays left a bunch, too.

As far as the Mets go, Mets.Com wrote today that HoJo will be back as hitting coach. That’s not the impression a lot of us had after the season when the Mets were whining about their situational hitting.

Willie Randolph will interview with Milwaukee. Doug Melvin, Milwaukee GM, was once in the Yankee farm system. He knows Willie well. Wouldn’t be surprising if he got the job.

If you don’t want to talk about the game or the Mets’ coaching, don’t worry. This is the message board for you night owls and those on the Coast. And, I’ll answer your questions and address your comments in the morning.

Loose threads: Saturday night playoffs edition.

What's on your mind?

What's on your mind?

Greetings all. Hope you had a good day. Watching the Brewers take an early 2-0 lead on the Phillies. Later the Dodgers can put away the Cubs. If you’d like to talk about the playoffs, or about Jerry Manuel getting a contract, or anything else, this is the place.

Sept. 4.08: I’m back ….

Greetings all. I have missed talking with you the past two weeks. I’ve received lots of well wishes since The Journal News dumped me. They never gave me a reason, at least nothing other than the vague explanation of economics. They are still making money, but I guess their profit margin isn’t as big as they hoped.

I received several requests to keep the blog running. The blog became a passion and I developed an attachment to many of my readers and felt obligated to continue. I made commitment to you and will stick by it. I thank you for your interest and will work hard to pick up where I left off. I also want to thank Joe McDonald for getting me up and running.

I won’t have the resources I had at the paper, but I am a lifetime member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, so I still have access to the ballpark, and and a result, the players.

As I search for a new job I will keep the blog running, and hopefully I will land something in baseball and close to Mets.

I will keep upgrading the blog, but if there’s anything you’d like so see, let me know and as always I will try to deliver.

If you want to reach me off-line, my email is jdelcos@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you, and I an anxious to talk Mets with you again.
