Chatting on Easter ….

If you’re taking a break from the holiday to watch the Mets, chat with us. The Mets are coming off their best game of the season, and Luis Castillo is coming off his best game in years.

It has been written here and elsewhere Castillo needs to enter Opening Day at Citi Field on a high note to make for a warm reception. He appears to have done that.

Johan Santana starts for the Mets today, making his second start of the season after a strong start at Cincinnati.

Here’s today’s line-up:

Reyes, SS
Murphy, LF
Wright, 3B
Delgado, 1B
Beltran, CF
Church, RF
Castro, C
Castillo, 2B
Santana, P

Please don’t ask about the arcane blackout rules, I don’t understand them, either. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for the Mets to come on a half-hour late.

Tonight we get our first look at Livan Hernandez. Room was made for him today by designating Marlon Anderson for assignment. As expected, the Mets said they hope he clears waivers and will take a minor league assignment.

Anderson was really the only decision the Mets could have made as they need the extra reliever.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Daniel Murphy, LF
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Delgado, 1B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Ryan Church, RF
Brian Schneider, C
Luis Castillo, 2B
Livan Hernandez, P

Mets Chat Room: Big Pelf on the hill

The Mets seek to open their season at 2-0 tonight behind Mike Pelfrey (1-1, 4.43 ERA in four games against the Reds). After a dismal 2-6 start last season, Pelfrey won 11 of his last 16 starts.

Don’t expect to see Gary Sheffield in the field any time soon. He said he needs to drop a few and isn’t ready. Manager Jerry Manuel said perhaps the last game of the Florida series or when the team returns home.

“There will be a point when we put him in the field,” Manuel said. “We’ll find a place for him.”

Until then, here’s tonight’s line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Daniel Murphy, LF
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Delgado, 1B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Ryan Church, RF
Brian Schneider, C
Luis Castillo, 2B
Mike Pelfrey, P

Tonight’s lineup vs. Florida

I like it. Ramon Martinez is back at second base. He’s the best alternative with Damion Easley not 100 percent. Catcher Brian Schneider, who didn’t play last night because of a sore back returns to the lineup.

Here’s the METS lineup vs. Florida:

SS Jose Reyes
LF Daniel Murphy
3B David Wright
1B Carlos Delgado
CF Carlos Beltran
RF Ryan Church
2B Ramon Martinez
C Brian Schneider
RH Mike Pelfrey

Mets lineup vs. Cubs

Well, what do you know, Ramon Martinez is playing second base. After last night, play the guy who has a chance of making something happening. Luis Castillo is just frustrating to watch.

Here it is, the lineup the Mets hope will save their season.
