METS CHAT ROOM: Game #58; going for series win vs. Phils.

CHAT ROOM

CHAT ROOM

They just fixed the cable about an hour ago, but it is still spotty. Naturally, they came over an hour after their window.

I listened on the radio, but had no way to chime in. A little spice between Mike Pelfrey and Chase Utley. Yes, this is turning into a real rivalry.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Luis Castillo, 2B
Alex Cora, SS
Carlos Beltran, CF
Gary Sheffield, LF
David Wright, 3B
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Fernando Martinez, RF
Omir Santos, C
Tim Redding, RP

NOTES: Daniel Murphy did not start in the Philly series. Says a lot. … John Maine said his shoulder is still hurting and could have some tests if there are problems in his next start Saturday vs. Yankees. Even so, Jerry Manuel said he’s not concerned. We’ve heard this before. … Carlos Delgado said he his feeling strong and believes he will return in time.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #57; Hamels for Phils, you know the story line.

CHAT ROOM

CHAT ROOM

Coming to you from my local library as the cable – and with it, Internet access – are out. They’ve been out for most of the afternoon. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to Citi Field tonight. So, I wanted to set up the Chat Room and hope I’ll be online shortly.

Cole Hamels goes tonight for the Phillies, and you know he’ll hear it from the crowd for his “chokers” comments about the Mets. I heard the original interview and much has been made out of nothing. That’s what the tabs are for.

Truth is, whatever label you want to put on it, the Mets kicked away the division the last two years. And, until the Mets prove they can win the Phillies will believe they can take the Mets. Very simple actually.

Last night was a tremendous game and we can only hope for something close tonight. Mike Pelfrey keeps showing breakout signs, but there’s always been a step back. Beating the Phillies will help everybody’s psyche.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Luis Castillo, 2B
Alex Cora, SS
Carlos Beltran, CF
Gary Sheffield, LF
David Wright, 3B
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Ryan Church, RF
Omir Santos, C
Mike Pelfrey, RP

erry Manuel will use the same lineup tonight as last night, with Luis Castillo leading off, then Alex Cora, Carlos Beltran, Gary Sheffield, David Wright, Fernando Tatis, Ryan Church, Omir Santos and Mike Pelfrey.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #53; facing the Nationals.

CHAT ROOM vs. Nats.

CHAT ROOM vs. Nats.

The sluggish Mets are in DC, armed with Tim Redding, in an attempt to stop their slide at three games.

The field is a mess in DC, but the game is supposed to start on time.

Redding’s first start since coming off the DL was a good one in LA, but he hasn’t shown much since.

The Mets are a hurting group, relying way too much on their role players. And, it doesn’t help that David Wright is in a slump.

June is a critical month for the Mets in that half their core is missing and the schedule will get tougher. If they can hold it together they should be in decent position come July.

Here’s tonight’s line-up:

Alex Cora, SS
Luis Castillo, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
David Wright, 3B
Fernando Tatis, RF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Fernando Martinez, LF
Brian Schneider, C
Tim Redding, P

NOTEBOOK: No timetable for Jose Reyes’ return. … Gary Sheffield rests tonight and will rest Sunday. … Jerry Manuel said it was likely (didn’t say definite) that Fernando Martinez will stay when Ryan Church is activated from the disabled list.

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #34; at the Golden Gate.

The Mets open arguably their roughest road trip of the season tonight against the San Francisco Giants. The West Coast is place where winning streaks go to die.

Jose Reyes will sit out tonight with a stiff calf.

Here’s the line-up:

Luis Castillo, 2B
Alex Cora, SS
Carlos Beltran, CF
Gary Sheffield, LF
David Wright, 3B
Fernando Tatis, 1B
Ramon Castro, C
Ryan Church, RF
John Maine, P

METS CHAT ROOM: Game #26; Santana vs. the Phillies.

CHAT ROOM

CHAT ROOM

The best pitcher in the sport will try to extend the Mets’ winning streak to three games tonight against the Phillies. Johan Santana could easily be 5-0 with a little more support.

Interesting changes in the line-up, beginning with Daniel Murphy batting sixth behind David Wright because Alex Cora gets the start at second. Ryan Church, who is in a dreadful slump and hitting .143 with RISP in on the bench.

Here’s the line-up:

Jose Reyes, SS
Alex Cora, 2B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Carlos Delgado, 1B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, LF
Jeremy Reed, RF
Omir Santos, C
Johan Santana, P
