Talkin’ Baseball: The playoffs are on.

Talkin' playoffs.

Talkin' playoffs.

Dodgers try to even their Series with the Phillies and the Rays and Red Sox in St. Pete. The storylines are plentiful in both series. And, many of them New York-related, including Torre and Kasmir.

I wonder what Victor Zambrano is doing these days?

Anyway, if it is in your mind it should be posted on these pages. Do us a favor and share your thoughts. I’ll talk with you during the evening and answering your questions.

Maine optimistic after surgery ….

Maine: Anxious to get going.

Maine: Anxious to get going.

The Mets did the right thing when Jerry Manuel shut down John Maine down the stretch.

“They told me it was the biggest one they’d ever removed, the biggest one they’d ever seen,” Maine said of the bone spur removed from his right shoulder. “They couldn’t believe I could throw with that in there.”

Maine said it was the size of a softball.

Nobody knows had Maine tried to work out of the pen if the spur would have rubbed against and/or torn a muscle or ligament. Instead, he’s now anxious to get going. He said he feels great and wants to start throwing immediately, but won’t until December.

Who gets the ball?

Would you give Sabathia all that money?

Would you give Sabathia all that money?

The Mets are staring at two holes in their rotation with the possible losses of Oliver Perez and Pedro Martinez. The free-agent market has options with CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett. So, you’re Omar. Who gets the money? Would you give Sabathia $150 million?

Do you re-sign either Perez or Martinez and go elsewhere?
Do you re-sign both Perez and Martinez?
Do you go elsewhere to fill both holes?
Do you give the ball to Jon Niese for the season and take your lumps?

Gooood Morning: From the overnight.

Have a good day.

Have a good day.

Quiet last night on the West Coast. I’ll keep posting the Moon thread and hopefully we can do a Pacific Chat Room.

My thoughts on some of the comments raised on the overnight:

-Castillo was never healthy all year, but the times he did play his attitude was suspect. A healthy and motivated Castillo? Well, it could happen. He played well in spurts in 2007. The Mets would like to deal Castillo, but if that doesn’t happen, I don’t see them cutting him and paying him his entire contract. The Mets don’t work that way.

-To me, Perez is one whom I would worry about being too complacent with a big contract. I have no basis to say that other than a gut feeling.

One more thing, if you haven’t already, scroll down a couple of threads to the one about your favorite uplifting song.

Mets after Midnight: The Left Coast edition.

Shining on the Left Coast.

Shining on the Left Coast.

I mentioned this to Patrick, but if there’s enough interest, I’d be interested in doing a Mets Chat Room at midnight one night next week. If you’re game, I’ll be there. Please let me know your interest.

Derek Lowe lost it all at once tonight. We were giving him props over Oliver Perez when Chase Utley and Pat Burrell took him deep. Phillies lead, 1-0. No worries yet.

The playoffs, what the Mets should do, and anything else on your mind, the floor is yours.
