Pedro Martinez tonight for the series win. Take them tonight and go for the sweep tomorrow. Like I said, I don’t know what to expect from Martinez, so I’m putting this on the offense tonight.
I’m looking for a breakout game from David Wright tonight. There were signs last night, and I have a feeling he’ll bust loose. Carlos Delgado is also swinging the bat better and Carlos Beltran is a guy who can carry a team, which he’s doing.
Tonight’s closer: I’m guessing Luis Ayala. On a side note, I’d like to see Jerry Manuel give the ball again to Aaron Heilman and build on last night’s good feelings.
Normally the Mets are conservative with their pitchers. But, it seems they are taking a risk with John Maine. I don’t buy the defense that he can’t hurt it anymore. I’m no doctor, but pain and discomfort are warning signs.
He’s scheduled to throw a simulated game today. I think this is a mistake. If this needs surgery, then do it now and give him more time to get ready for spring training. He’s too valuable to mess around with.
Several things come to mind, the most important being they won the type of game they have lost in the past in Atlanta.
-Nice job by the pen last night. Brian Stokes will probably be unavailable tonight. Huge strikeout by Aaron Heilman. I hope this helps turn him around.
-Oliver Perez did not pitch well, but as was posted last night he minimized the damage to some degree. He needs to do better, but he didn’t implode.
-David Wright will snap out of it. He went the other way last night and that’s a good sign. There seems little doubt he took his offense out on the field with him. That’s unlike him. But, overall, I have a lot of confidence in Wright. He will be fine.
-I’m going to keep saying it: I want Daniel Murphy in the lineup against everybody. Play him until he proves he can’t hit lefties.
The Mets won a coin-flip today with Milwaukee should the teams finish tied for the wild-card.
Speaking of coin flips, I don’t know which Oliver Perez will show up tonight. He’s pitched well against the Braves, winning five of his last seven starts over the last two seasons. Recently, he’s been erratic with his control.
Here’s tonight’s lineup:
SS Jose Reyes
2B Luis Castillo
3B David Wright
CF Carlos Delgado
1B Carlos Beltran
C Ramon Castro
RF Ryan Church
LF Nick Evans
LH Oliver Perez
Comments: They won their last two games with Daniel Murphy in left and batting second. Why change?
