Today’s Question: What Carnage Will Stanton Bring To Mets?

After being mauled the past four games by Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez, the Mets now get the luxury of facing a career franchise killer Giancarlo Stanton.

So, today’s question is: What kind of damage will Stanton do this weekend against Mets pitchers, Chris Flexen, Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom?

If the Marlins were a playoff contender this year, Stanton might be the NL MVP frontrunner. He just might win it regardless, especially if he comes close to 60 homers.

Stanton has 11 homers with 21 RBI for August after having 12 homers with 23 RBI in July.

Overall, he has 32 homers with 71 RBI and a .903 OPS against the Mets, with five homers and ten RBI coming this season. Six games remain between the two teams.

Stanton is three years into a 13-year, $325-million contract with the Marlins.

  1. What might happen during the next two weeks…
    1. Granderson and/or Cabrera on the move
    2. Lots of playing time for Rosario, Smith, Nimmo, Lagares, Reynolds and Cecchini

How to strengthen the Mets for 2018…
    1. Platoon Lagares and Nimmo in CF with Lagares finishing most games due to his overwhelmingly high-quality defense
    2. Play Smith and Rosario most of the time and put Rosario in the one or two hole
    3. Have a free-for-all at 2B (with TJ Rivera, Flores, Reynolds, Checchini) with TJ as the front-runner, if healthy
    4. Most likely infield backups for 2018: Reyes (2B, SS, 3B, CF) and Flores (1B, 3B, 2B, SS), but no reason to use them much for the rest of this season as we know what they can do and who they are
    5. Use September to pitch all the available starters for 4-5 innings with another starter hurling 3-4 innings
    6. Finish games with Familia or Ramos alternating
    7. Sign Mike Moustakas to a three-year deal
    8. Go get a Alex Avila, Yasmani Grandal or Hector Sanchez to platoon with Rene Rivera (or d’Arnaud or Plawecki)
    9. Pray for good health
