Mets Chat Room: Limping home with Dickey

The Mets limp home tonight from their 2-4 road trip to face the Florida Marlins at Citi Field, with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey going against Anibal Sanchez.

Game #55 vs. Marlins

Dickey has been surprisingly good since he was brought up from Class AAA Buffalo, May 19, going 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA. He did it against Washington, Philadelphia and Milwaukee, all three possessing strong offenses.

“He battles,’’ manager Jerry Manuel said. “I think he deserves another shot, no doubt about it. In all of his starts he’s given us a chance to win. When you get that, you’ve got to keep going with it.’’

Since beating the Marlins on Opening Day, the Mets have lost six straight games to them. Something has to give because the Mets have won their last five at home and 15 of 19.

It has been a busy day for the Mets, placed Luis Castillo on the disabled list with a bone bruise, and recalled infielder Ruben Tejada. The Mets also designated for assignment outfielder Gary Matthews Jr., and brought up catcher Omir Santos.

The Mets’ explanation for bringing up a third catcher is because Henry Blanco was banged up, but evidently not enough to go on the disabled list.

  1. Limping with Dickey? There’s got be a job out there as a headline writer, no?

  2. “I think he deserves another shot, no doubt about it. In all of his starts he’s given us a chance to win. When you get that, you’ve got to keep going with it”

which is the reason ollie got chance after chance.

  3. SIXTH INNING: Francoeur comes through with RBI. He’s been on a tear (14-27). He’s not reaching for pitches the way he used to.-JD

  4. (9) He only gets the quality start if he doesn’t give up any more runs. That’s one of the shortcomings of the stat: You get credit for six innings and three earned runs (4.50 ERA), but not for nine innings and four runs (4.00 ERA).

Anyway, I’m feeling a little down tonight. This is usually the time of game we see GMJ. I just feel so empty without him.

  5. NINTH INNING: K-Rod threw a lot of pitches in his last game. Even with the off day it will be interesting to see what he has in the tank.-JD
