April 24.10: Chat Room, Game #18 vs. Braves: Looking at .500.

Beautiful day a Citi Field. Sunny with a slight chilly bite in the air. No surprises, the Mets will attempt to reach .500 for the first time in over two weeks with a win this afternoon behind Jon Niese and their new-and-improved line-up.

Jose Reyes insists he doesn’t mind hitting third – I told him Babe Ruth hit third – and he’ll be there again today. There are changes at second and behind the plate, but everything else is the same.

Mets Line-up (8-9)

Angel Pagan, CF
Alex Cora, 2B
Jose Reyes, SS
Jason Bay, LF
David Wright, 3B
Ike Davis, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Henry Blanco, C
Jon Niese, LP

MAINE UPDATE: John Maine has spasms in his left elbow which he hopes won’t keep him from missing his next start. He admits to being frustrated, saying, “it kind of hard wrapping my head around this.” … Maine experienced something similar a few years ago in Philadelphia, but nothing this season.

  1. That’s it for NIese. He gave them 5 1/3 and so far only one run. He labored, threw a lot of pitches, but his line is such that the Mets would take it any time.-JD

  2. A QUICK WRAP/Game #18

    FINAL: Mets 3, Braves 1.
    RECORD: 9-9.
THUMBNAIL ANALYSIS: Jon Niese and Jair Jurrjens squared off in a pitcher’s duel before the Braves chased him with a run in the sixth. It was a difficult game for Niese but the Mets would take his line any time. … The Mets aren’t crushing the ball, but they’ve won five of their last six games, and six of eight.
ON THE MOUND: Niese gave up one run on five hits and five walks with six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. He was in trouble several times, but was able to get out of it.
AT THE PLATE: David Wright has struck out a career-high 11 straight games. … The Mets took the lead in the seventh on Jeff Francoeur’s double and a sacrifice fly by Henry Blanco. … Jason Bay doubled home Jose Reyes the previous inning.
IN THE FIELD: Wright committed his fourth error of the season. … Sun gave Pagan a lot of trouble in center. …
LOOKING AHEAD: Mike Pelfrey starts tomorrow night. Rain is in the forecast. -JD
