March 5.10: Reyes out with thyroid issue.

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was scratched from today’s game and will return to New York for tests after it was detected in Thursday’s bloodwork that he could have a thyroid imbalance.

Reyes will be tested through Monday and won’t play until at least Wednesday.

Reyes said he doesn’t feel any differently.

“I don’t know what’s going on, this is the first time I’ve ever had something like this,” Reyes said. “I have to be worried. I can’t do anything.” Reyes also said this issue has nothing to do with his hamstring issues.

  1. Not good news.
If anyone else saw the “Oprah” show on which Roger Ebert appeared, a thyroid problem is nothing to take lightly. Ebert has thyroid cancer, had to have the area under his jaw removed, can’t eat or drink without the aid of tubes and has lost the sense of taste. He talks only with the aid of a high-tech computer.
Thank goodness the thyroid issue is being checked out with Jose and goodness forbid if there’s anything wrong, they’ve caught it early and can treat it.
Though with the Mets’ medical staff…

  2. Gil — Which chin did Ebert have removed?

You’ve been a wonderful audience; please drive safely.
