METS CHAT ROOM: Game #149; another look at Maine and peeking in at the Jets.

CHAT ROOM

One of the Mets’ most important off-season decisions will be about John Maine. Just getting through five could help answer some questions.

Maine (5-5, 4.45 ERA) is making his second start since returning from the disabled list. He threw three innings against the Phillies last weekend. Today, just as was the case last week, results don’t matter as much as just making it through the day.

Here’s the batting order:

Angel Pagan, LF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Carlos Beltran, CF
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Josh Thole, C
Wilson Valdez, SS
John Maine, RP

My attention will be diverted over to the Meadowlands to watch the Jets against those cheatin’ Patriots. There’s just something annoying about the Patriots. They have an arrogance about them that rivals that of the Yankees. It all stems from the head coach.

The Jets did a lot of talking this week. Let’s see if they can walk the walk.

yes. playing hurt for a team going nowhere.

I want to see him do it for a year tho before i believe in him.

he has done well for us so far.

  2. WPIX has the whole crew today – Gary, Keith and Ronnie – And, I bought Ronnie’s book the other day and am about halfway through reading it.

As for football I like everything about it except watching it – it’s the Buonoconti event that sticks in my mind. Don’t want to ever see that kind of situation again.

So, it’s back to Citi Field where all the kids are in the park today with their gloves.

    Let’s Go Mets

  3. dave (5): The reasons for how Manuel makes out his batting order has long escaped me. Sorry. I think that is a failing as a manager. There should be some consistency.-JD

  4. Francoer: When Bobby Cox dumps you, he is rarely on the wrong track. What guy do you get next year? The guy that played hot in meaningless games or the guy that sucked for a year and a half? If he has value he’s the guy to trade.
Maine; Had good location. doesn;t have his fastball…. Is he a 90 mph guy for now on or a 94 mph guy easing back in? Spetember games against a team ,more out of the race than you only raise more questions.

  5. Harry (17) I agree with John – there are times when it seems like Francoeur is the only living, breathing player on the team.

  6. so maine did 5 innings for 2 hits?

let us see him do that a few more times.

    they still need 2 pitchers.

keep franceour. we have enough problems getting 3 position players and 2 pitchers

  7. So since you all want to keep the Fracncoer, hoe do you know this three month stretch is the norm and not the year and a half stretch before it? If you can fill 2 holes for him, you wouldn’t do it, you are all so sure he is the answer…. Just like Church was the answer after a two month fluke, and Murphy was the man after a two month fluke? Why is this fluke different than all other flukes? (Oh, maybe that’s Passover not baseball).

  8. Harry (22): If you think Francoeur is worthless, than why do you think you’ll fill two holes for him? He’s had good numbers in the past, and has been posting them now. He’s worth the chance.-JD

  9. Howie’s back and has put this game in The Book. Two wins in a row – is it a streak?

Final Score: Mets 6 Nationals 2

Tomorrow, the Mets welcome Atlanta @7:10PM
    Pat Misch vs. Derek Lowe

  10. 24. I didn’t say he was worthless. I said originally if you could get value for him trade him… I’m saying he has just as much chance of sucking as he has of doing this for a year.
I’d also trade the closer. Closers are the most overrated players on almost any team anyway. Lidge, Franklin, Wilson. Except for Rivera they are all over paid. If this Putz is fixed make him the closer. KMART fills holes. You got nobody else to deal on this team.

2 in a row. The Mets are still superior to the Nats. Whoooooo Hooooooo!

  11. IF ONLY I were actually a betting man…

    John Delcos September 17, 2009 11:20 pm

Jeff (110): The Mets are getting closer to winter. That’s about it. … By the way, I’m betting Pats and Cowboys this weekend against the NY teams.-JD

    Jeff M. September 17, 2009 11:27 pm

JD (113) I don’t give a hoot about football, but I still think the Jets will beat the Pats.

  12. (22) Harry: I get what you’re saying about Francouer…but they already have too many holes to create another one. 1b, C, Left, Starting pitching and so on and so on… Unless a trade is going to help the Mets fill in a few of those holes, it doesn’t make sense to trade him. I would imagine your concerns about Francouer would be other GM’s concerns as well.

  13. Great game for the Jets yesterday. Especially the defense. Good article in the post today about Reyes. Nobody knows when he will return. Milton Bradley suspended by the Cubs for the rest of the year.

  14. Ray (35) Thanks for the heads up about the Reyes article – there have been very few of them written about him this summer. A very sad situation…
