I really don’t want to watch Oliver Perez tonight. Yeah, once I say that he’s liable to pitch lights out, but he’s also able to be annoyingly frustrating to watch. How Dan Warthen and Jerry Manuel, not to mention his teammates, bear it, I’ll never know.
The Mets need a big game from Perez because they can’t afford much more losing. They threw away last night’s game, literally, with Sean Green’s wild pitch.
Here’s the line-up:
Angel Pagan, CF
Luis Castillo, 2B
David Wright, 3B
Daniel Murphy, 1B
Jeff Francoeur, RF
Cory Sullivan, LF
Alex Cora, SS
Brian Schneider, C
Oliver Perez, LP

I don’t want to come across as being so negative, but I am tired of watching Perez pitch. His inconsistency is maddening. He’s like the tease of a girl friend I had in college.-JD
Two strikeouts, one bomb.-JD
HE is a TEASE. Can look so good against one batter and walk the next guy on four pitches.
Speaking of teasing. Second and third, one out, and no runs scored.-JD
Nice having that awesome Omar acquisiiton Schneider back in the lineup. Mets will probably re-up him.
Harry (5): For at least two years, no doubt.-JD
Mets killer Augie Ojeda has a walk and a hit already.
Murphy is showing a great glove at first base. I hope he can show enough with the bat to be the first baseman for years to come. Kind of the opposite of how the season started
5- Chiti- Schnieder still has a better obp than your buddy Francoeur who still hasnt drawn a walk as a Met.
And now Schneider hits a booming double after fouling off some tough pitches.
Big inning for Perez. Not off to a good start.-JD
9. One thing my buddy does is something the other Mets don’t seem to think is important. Get RBIs. With the crap batting behind him I want to continue to never walk!!!
I had to have my ticker checked when Schneider got that double. Close one!!
Frog owes Wright for the ribeye. At least he didnt strikeout.
Hi – I’m here, but I’m attending the Ronnie Darling baseball seminar – don’t get much chance to do that….
Rather have Francoew up with guy on third than David Wright.
What happended to this DBack team? Beginning of last year they seemed to have it all and they died and they are almost as bad as the Nats and Pirates now.
I’ve really come to hate Manuel as a manger. when he’s losing he uses the bullpen like its game 7 of the WS. But when he’s winning he manages like Spring Training and who cares if we hold the lead. He definitely makes Willie Randolph and Jeff Torborg and even Joe Frazier look like HoF managers.
Harry (17): Kind of hard to figure out.-JD
18. Easy to figure out. The guy ain’t a big league manager.
Harry (17) Don’t think there are going to be any more changes..are they still paying Willie?
16 Losing Webb didnt help. But now with Haren closing out this series the Mets could get swept if they lose this one. Haren vs. Redding odds on that one Delcos?
Berroa pinch hitting again. Where is Sheffield already?
Ray (22) Isn’t Sheffield on the DL?
A Grand Slam – How about that!
Wow Grand salami by Pagan. Who said he was overexposed?
Harry, your favorite Met comes through. … Annie, they are still paying Willie for this year. … Ray, kind of like Haren over Redding.-JD
22. Shef was due to come off this weekend. He instists he was ready to play last week.
I had been watching the Pete Seeger 90th Birthday Concert at MSG on channel 13… was able to see nearly entire innings during the pledge breaks.
Mets showing life again!
Boy, they went from Pagan pointing up to Pagan looking up in a hurry…
Howie has put this back and forth game “in the Books”. Pagan hit a timely Grand Slam in the 8th inning – his first.
Final Score, Mets 9 – Arizona 6.
Tomorrow’s game is at 1PM on SNY
See you then….
K-Rod gets a save with one pitch after Stokes nearly blew it.
So the Mets have finally won 50 games. With 59 left to play, that means just to win 90 games they have to go 40 – 19 the rest of the way. That’s a .678 winning percentage. But is that enough to win the Wild Card?
Here’s the number of games won by NL Wild Card winners the past eight years:
2001: 93 (Cards)
2002: 95 (Giants)
2003: 91 (Marlins)
2004: 92 (Astros)
2005: 89 (Astros)
2006: 88 (Dodgers)
2007: 90 (Rockies)
2008: 90 (Brewers)
To equal the least number of wins among those (88) the Mets have to go 38 – 21, or play .644 the rest of the way.
Is it completely impossible? No. Is it likely? No.
good win for the metsies and pagan looks like a very good option as 4th OF next yr..as for the this yr, the team is fighting and the crowd seems to be into every pitch, no work today so hopefully ill be around to enjoy the game (and a met win i hope)
