Sept. 4.08: I’m back ….

Greetings all. I have missed talking with you the past two weeks. I’ve received lots of well wishes since The Journal News dumped me. They never gave me a reason, at least nothing other than the vague explanation of economics. They are still making money, but I guess their profit margin isn’t as big as they hoped.

I received several requests to keep the blog running. The blog became a passion and I developed an attachment to many of my readers and felt obligated to continue. I made commitment to you and will stick by it. I thank you for your interest and will work hard to pick up where I left off. I also want to thank Joe McDonald for getting me up and running.

I won’t have the resources I had at the paper, but I am a lifetime member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, so I still have access to the ballpark, and and a result, the players.

As I search for a new job I will keep the blog running, and hopefully I will land something in baseball and close to Mets.

I will keep upgrading the blog, but if there’s anything you’d like so see, let me know and as always I will try to deliver.

If you want to reach me off-line, my email is jdelcos@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you, and I an anxious to talk Mets with you again.

  1. Hi John,

Good luck with the new site. I will be checking in from time to time. It will make you happy to know that Harry Chiti is messing with the new guy, Josh, too.

  2. I’m back, too – after a couple of weeks in another world, it’s good to be back at home with the Mets.

    Good Luck, John

  3. Hi John,

Glad to see you back, missed your writing. I had to ask Annie how to post a note on here.

  4. Thanks for stopping in. I welcome your comments and suggestions as to what you’d like to see.-JD

  5. John,

Received your emails and will do. Glad to see you back up and running. The old blog has become a shell of what it was. No offense to Josh who does a fairly good job but it is what it is.

Question – Is Joe McDonald the same Joe McDonald that did updates on the Fan years ago? I am thinking it is. Used to love hearing his tag line –

The best sports radio in NEEEEEEEEEEW YOOOORK!!!

Always got a kick out of that. Well let’s go Mets and NYMETSREPORT!!!

  6. Great to see you’re back, and hope you’re able to find a job covering the Mets for a local paper or radio/TV outlet.

Will you be reporting on Mets’ prospects playing in the AFL and Caribbean Winter Leagues?

  7. CLM,

To answer your question: No I am not the same Joe McDonald from the FAN. I am the owner of NYSportsDay.com and the editor of NY Sportscene Magazine and Mets Inside Pitch Magazine.

    Joe

  8. Glad you’re back. I’ve been on vacation and all of a sudden the feed from the Journal News was written by someone else. I just assumed you’d gone on vacation, too :)

  9. Joe – Thanks for the info. Of course from this far away you could have been both. Have enjoyed this site for a while even before John came here. Keep up the great work!!!

  10. JD,

I posted ur link on today’s luhud thread.

Glad to see you are back. Not glad to see you havent landed anything yet.

I have noticed that increasingly I see articles or contributions on articles made from India. So the news industry is being affected the same as technology, finance, law, etc. We are all being outsourced.

Have you looked into what the free rags pay? one like ny metro, amny? they could use an upgrade in the sports section. I am sure you can write on all the ny area teams. or you could try branching out. the money section on amny is silly. in fact if i get laid off i might put in a submission myself.

  11. Hey JD….Missed ya over on the Lohud blog, but glad you’ve landed on your feet! I always felt that your site was the best non-Metsblog website….Looking forward to some great debates!

  12. Welcome back John. I am happy to see one of the ‘good guys’ in the press is blogging again.

You were very kind to me when I was a terribly green newbie this past spring training, and I appreciate how treated me like any other reporter.

Good luck in your new endeavors, I look forward to continue following you to where the next opportunity takes you.

  13. John,

I am so glad to see your writing again…you are an inspiration to all us “Mets bloggers”, and I cannot fathom why you were let go.

I had your old link prominently displayed on my site, and I will change it now to this one.

I’ll also put a blurb on there so people know where to find you.
